I’ve been noticing a lot of people begging of late, and I don’t like it.

I drive a truck, so I pass through a lot of signal controlled junctions, and a good number of these junctions now also have beggars, they’re also outside supermarkets, people just sitting there, hoping for a handout, a few pennies, or cigarette perhaps. I don’t like it

You may be thinking that I’m not nice for not liking beggars, and if that were the case you’d be I right, but it isn’t.

What I don’t like is that there is a need for people to beg.

According to Investopedia.com the UK’s economy is the 6th largest in the world, and for a small nation, that’s quite the achievement, so why are there people whose only means of getting money is to beg for it?

It makes me both sad, and angry that this is how some folks have to live, we have a welfare state, social housing, and social care system, and yet every day we let people down, they slip through the cracks, and find themselves sitting beneath a traffic light, or by the doors of a grocery shop, hoping someone will toss them a few pennies.

Surely there is a means to help, and to restore independence to those who find themselves in such straits.
